The main critical issue found at the hospital building in question is the production of steam as a heat transfer fluid even in the absence of direct steam utilities, resulting in poor production and distribution plant efficiencies. In addition, a backup for the production of chilled water is absent being present only one refrigeration unit.

Therefore, hot water systems were retrofitted with new condensing heat generators. By upgrading the substations and distribution networks by adapting them to the new heat transfer fluid, the energy efficiency of heat production and distribution was thus significantly increased, leading to decisive energy and economic savings on the part of the entity benefiting from the intervention. At the same time, the electrical system was upgraded for better and correct regulation of each component.

In addition, this project includes the installation of No. 1 new refrigeration unit in order to ensure the coverage of cooling energy needs during summer peaks, as well as to ensure a partial back-up of the only existing refrigeration unit serving the entire hospital complex.
